About us
Kittens of Scottish fold are gaining immense popularity. At first glance, it might seem that choosing a kitten is not difficult. I thought so too, until I did it on a professional level.

On the one hand, the future owner of a Scottish kitten should understand that if a kitten has all the qualities of a British origin, it should be bought from reputable breeders.

On the other hand, for breeders, worthy offspring should not be empty words. And our Zabawa cattery produces healthy and high-quality kittens that will bring comfort and tranquility to your home, and you will be allowed to enjoy their beauty and communication with them.

Zabawa cattery specializes in breeding Scottish cats with exquisite colors: silver chinchilla, stain on silver, stain on gold, marble on gold. In the work of the cattery, we strive to maintain and improve the qualities of the Scottish breed, guided by the modern breed standard requirements.

About the breed
The Scottish breed is one of the most famous and original breed. Scottish fold is considered one of the youngest breed. Although the first mention of cats, which look similar to Scots, was back in the XIX century.

In 1959th, a Scottish farmer saw a cat with very original appearance. It was Susie - white short-haired kitty with broken ears hanging forward. The farmer's wife was breeding Siamese cats and she interested in these unusual animals. The neighbors promised to give a kitten from another litter.

In 1961st, the cat gave birth to kittens. There was two kittens in this litter with an unusual shape of ears and they gave one kitten to neighbors. It was a white cat with folded ears and she was given the nickname Snooks. This moment is considered as the beginning of purposeful breeding of a Scottish fold cat.

From 1966 to 1971, there were various mating of these animals and in order to avoid unwanted mutations in future offspring, as they were siblings, it was decided to ask help from geneticists and mate with a white British shorthair cat. Genetics developed a program for breeding this breed.

Also, scientists studied the gene of the lop-eardeness and developed rules for the selection of breeding pairs. The main requirement was the following: never interbreed a Scottish Fold cat with cats whose ears are lowered. They must be crossed only with ordinary cats.

If you follow this rule, in the litter be a part of lop-eared kittens (Scottish Fold), and a part with ordinary ears (Scottish Straight).

Now the breed of Scottish Fold can be divided into 2 directions:

— Cats with hanging ears — folded ear
— Cats with straight ears — straights (straight)

Scottish fold is a certain type of mutation in cats. Such cats have a fairly strong immunity, well-built body. The colors of these cats are very diverse. These cats can be distinguished by the main feature — they have their ears down.

When mating lop-eared cats, some kittens from the litter are obtained with ordinary straight ears.

Scottish Straight cats, bearing a gene of fold, which does not appear in their appearance. Despite the fact that they do not look like Scottish folds, these cats inherit all their dignity and certain qualities of character.

In 1971 — the association of cat lovers recognized the Scottish Fold cats as a breed. In 1978−1979 years the first Scottish Fold cat gained the status of a champion and is recognized as the best animal of the CFA.

In 1990, the European Club of Scottish Fold cats was created, which included many well-known breeders of various countries around the world. In the early 90's this breed enters the CIS countries. The Scots quickly find their fans and gain immense popularity with the nickname "teddy bear".
